Question
Why does Clampex 6 give a 'Possible Bad Timer Cable' message when I attempt to acquire data on the LabMaster/TL-1 system.
Answer
On aging LabMaster/TL-1 systems, this message sometimes starts to
appear. At the back of the TL-1 box there are three ribbon cables. Make
sure the cables are stretched out and not tightly bunched together.
Looking at the back of the TL-1, the ribbon cable to the far left
(closest to the end of the box) is the timer cable. If this does not
have shielding, wrap the length of the cable in aluminum foil, and make
sure the foil is pressed tightly against the cable. There is no need to
ground the shield. Alternatively, use a shorter 50-pin ribbon cable, if
available (NOT available from Axon Instruments).
